Skyscape Neckpiece - Night
As the price of silver and gold continues to rise myself and many jewellers have been forced to reevaluate our ways of utilising precious metals. In a contemporary jewellery practice this consideration holds within it the opportunity to do something exciting - something new. In the case of this work, silver and gold become powder, which is then combined with vitreous enamel - a typically industrial material that once was used to coat our road signs, white goods and cookware. The mix is fired onto stainless steel and together these elements create a technique that is entirely new, that suits the creation of jewellery but also begs to be applied in other contexts and opens up an exciting world of continuing material innovation.
